Department of International Liberal ArtsDepartment of Food and Health Sciences[Disciplines][Areas]JapanAsiaEurope and the United StatesGlobalThe Department of International Liberal Arts focuses on studying global societies and cultures to develop the ability of students to perceive them relatively and to cultivate international communication skills. The goal is to nurture individuals who can actively engage in a wide range of fields, including cultural exchange, international cooperation, and business activities, while embracing the philosophy of international coexistence. In their first and second years, students primarily take common faculty subjects and fundamental courses specific to the department. This curriculum allows them to acquire a broad cultural knowledge relevant to the international community—including language skills and leadership development—as well as foundational knowledge in humanities and social sciences. Students are encouraged to explore areas of personal interest and identify subjects they may excel in. From their second year onward, students have the freedom to choose from 115 specialized subjects, allowing them to design their own curriculum based on their strengths and preferences. There are no strict credit requirements, enabling students to create a personalized curriculum, such as "studying various fields related to Asia with a focus on Korea" or "focusing on languages from various countries." This approach allows students to engage with knowledge in a unique and expansive way.Students are supported in choosing courses by academic and curriculum advisors. Each subject displays a combination of a "discipline" (a specific academic field) and an "area", making it easier for students to choose subjects based on their interests and strengths. The Department of Food and Health Sciences aims to cultivate professionals equipped with specialized knowledge and skills related to "maintaining and promoting human health," "food safety and security," and the multifaceted perspectives and integrated judgment necessary to address the fundamental issues of "food and health" in an increasingly globalized society.Improving dietary habits and addressing nutritional issues are global challenges. Domestically, there are problems such as lifestyle diseases stemming from poor diets and dependence on foreign food supplies for safety. Globally, developing countries face significant food scarcity challenges. There is a current demand for individuals who not only possess the integrated knowledge and skills to address these issues but who can also apply an international perspective to find solutions. This department emphasizes small class sizes and aims to prepare "food specialists" who contribute to solving food and health challenges both domestically and internationally while preparing for national registered dietitian examinations.?
